Delaware County and Chester County have recently approved a new budget for 2013. The result--a 2.8 percent raise in Delaware County property taxes and a 5 percent increase in Chester County real estate taxes per year. For Delaware County homeowners, this means that the owner of a home assessed at $130,000 would pay $19.75 more per year. A Chester County homeowner with a home at the median assessed value of $165,760 will see a $32.86 increase per year.
Chester County is still reported as having one of the lowest tax rates in the region. The rise in taxes is a result of mounting pension and health-benefit costs.
Delaware County Executive Director Marianne Grace stated that this tax increase was necessary for the county to maintain services, necessities such as 911 response and geriatric care.
